Landwash Session It IPA Beer Launch + Poker Run Extravaganza!

Join AMBA for its Landwash Session It IPA Beer Launch + Poker Run Extravaganza! We are holding a poker run ride in White Hills, which will end at The Wharf! To participate, riders must visit five checkpoints, drawing a playing card at each one. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run. 

This is a ride, not a race! Ride alone, with your own friends/family or with an AMBA-led group. Each person is playing in the poker run as an individual and could win individually. There will be one organized ride option but if you prefer to ride on your own/with your own group, you just have to hit all 5 designated checkpoints. With the last top being The Wharf, we'll see you there for some refreshments! Youth are welcome to participate in the poker run and will be able to pick up their last card by The Wharf. Youth may enter The Wharf itself with designated adult presence.

~13km - Guided/group ride - start time: 11:30am at Cadet Road

Self-Guided - start anytime after 11am. The social event at The Wharf starts at 2pm so plan your ride with that in mind! 

Please sign a waiver here if you have never signed an AMBA waiver.

Prize for best poker hand: $200. Second best hand: $100. In the case of multiple of the same tier of best hands (i.e. Royal Flush), maximum two riders can win. Otherwise, two names will be drawn of the top card winners. Must be present to win door prizes. 

What is a poker run?

• There are no prizes for speed. There will be a course time limit to ensure an organized conclusion to the event: cards must be turned in at The Wharf at Quidi Vidi no later than 2:45pm.

• There will be five (5) stops necessary to complete this Poker Run. At each designated stop, the participants draw an envelope with a card in it at random. Cards will be placed in non-transparent envelopes and must be presented still in their envelopes at the card drop at The Wharf at Quidi Vidi. Failure to maintain cards sealed in their envelopes will result in disqualification. The envelopes will be opened at The Wharf at Quidi Vidi and hands recorded. 

• The winning hand is determined by standard poker hand rankings. There are no "wild cards" allowed.

• Players will re-draw any cards that are duplicates. For example, if you draw the seven of clubs and you already have the seven of clubs, then you must put the card back and re-draw another card. This will happen at at The Wharf at Quidi Vidi

• A poker run should be a fun and enjoyable event for all concerned.

🃏 Poker Hand Rankings

Here’s how hands will be ranked for AMBA’s Poker Run Ride. Hands are evaluated using standard poker rankings... the higher your hand on this list, the better your chance to win!

1. Royal Flush ♠️♥️♦️♣️The unbeatable hand — A, K, Q, J, 10 all in the same suit.

2. Straight Flush: Five cards in sequence, all of the same suit (e.g. 7♣, 8♣, 9♣, 10♣, J♣).

3. Four of a Kind: Four cards of the same rank, plus one other card (e.g. 9♠, 9♥, 9♦, 9♣, K♠).

4. Full House: Three of one rank and two of another (e.g. 10♥, 10♠, 10♦, 3♣, 3♥).

5. Flush: Five cards of the same suit, not in sequence (e.g. 2♥, 5♥, 8♥, J♥, K♥).

6. Straight: Five cards in sequence, any suit (e.g. 4♣, 5♥, 6♦, 7♠, 8♥).

7. Three of a Kind: Three cards of the same rank (e.g. Q♣, Q♦, Q♠, 7♥, 2♦).

8. Two Pair: Two sets of pairs (e.g. 8♠, 8♣, 4♦, 4♥, J♠).

9. One Pair: A single matching pair (e.g. 5♣, 5♥, 9♦, K♠, 2♣).

10. High Card: If no one makes a pair or better, the highest card wins (Ace is high).

• Duplicate cards (same rank and suit) will be re-drawn at the card drop at The Wharf at Quidi Vidi.

• Cards must remain sealed in envelopes until they are opened by AMBA volunteers at at The Wharf at Quidi Vidi

• The best hand wins $200 and second best wins $100, with a maximum of two winners in the case of identical top-tier hands.
